A boxy shaped compact multipurpose vehicle which was marketed towards buyers who enjoy surfing or exploring. Alternatively, just a great versatile vehicle with many characteristics. Cleverly designed by Japanese engineers back in the early 2000’s.
The Open Deck was a JDM-only variant of the squared-off hatchback, replacing the traditional enclosed boot with an all-weather pickup bed, which could be covered with a tonneau for year-round use, along with a hinged rear window to carry oversized loads with ease. It has a bi-folding type rear tailgate where that glass top half lifts up on gas struts and the lower half folds down like in traditional pick-up style.
It benefits from “suicide doors” which open opposite to each other for ease of loading. Rear seats fold completely flat as well as the fronts which offers you more workspace or can even be used as a compact bed. The more you explore the quirkier characteristics you find. It certainly is very impressive and something that like minded JDM enthusiasts will truly appreciate.
